Liverpool news: Darwin Nunez injury update as Jurgen Klopp hints forgotten man could return

New Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez missed part of club's latest training session after picking up a foot injury.

The Reds have flown out to Thailand for their pre-season tour, holding an open training session for a small number of fans at the national team's stadium. And an update has now been issued on the Uruguay striker after he sat out the final stages of the session.

It comes as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted that youngster Tyler Morton could have a big role to play in the upcoming season as he explained why the Reds have not pursued a new midfielder this summer. And Klopp has also opened up on Sadio Mane's departure from the club.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Liverpool headlines.

Nunez injury update

Darwin Nunez's injury does not appear set to cause any major problems after he sat out part of Liverpool's latest training session.

The Reds took part in an open training session at the Thailand national stadium, although Nunez sat out some of the drills. There was plenty else to see as well, with Klopp playing up to the crowd, Harvey Elliott beginning a big pre-season and Mohamed Salah's good mood after signing a new contract at the club.

A number of young players were also given a chance to impress and the team appeared to be in good spirits.

Klopp drops Morton hint

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Tyler Morton could have a big role to play in the upcoming season as he explained the club's decision not to invest in a new midfielder this summer.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham, although the German club have declared the England international is not for sale following Erling Haaland's departure earlier this summer. That has left Klopp willing to wait to land his top target, despite his squad looking a little light in the middle of the park.

But Klopp has waxed lyrical about Morton, saying the 19-year-old "has definitely made the next steps" and that he has been "absolutely exceptional" in training.

Mane exit "was always clear"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has opened up about Sadio Mane's departure from the club this summer.

The Senegal international joined Bayern Munich in a £35.1million move with the Reds deciding to cash in him rather than risk losing him for nothing with his contract having been due to expire in a year's time. Klopp has now spoken about the moment Mane told him he wanted to leave, saying "then we just knew we had to replace him".

But it also appears there was a sense of inevitability about the move, with Klopp saying "it was always clear that changes had to be made".
