Liverpool news: Alisson sends Cristiano Ronaldo message as Reds fans thanked for gesture

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has sent his condolences to Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo following the tragic death of his son shortly after childbirth.

The United forward missed the Premier League encounter between the two sides on Tuesday night after being granted compassionate leave by his club following the news about his son, which was confirmed on Monday. Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez had been expecting twins but sadly only their daughter arrived safely.

Despite Ronaldo not playing as Liverpool hosted Manchester United on Tuesday, Reds fans took part in an organised applause during the seventh minute to honour his son and broke out into a spontaneous chorus of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. Ronaldo's family have now responded to the touching gesture and thanked fans for their support.

It comes as Rio Ferdinand has been left embarrassed as his pre-season prediction about Liverpool has been blown apart by Jurgen Klopp's side.

United currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and look set to miss out on Champions League qualification while the Reds are vying for the title.

But before a ball had been kicked last summer, Ferdinand predicted United would be stronger than Jurgen Klopp's side this season.
