Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a 'great addition' for Everton

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Everton boss Frank Lampard would "love" having Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in his ranks at Goodison Park if the midfielder was to leave Anfield this summer.

Last season was arguably Oxlade-Chamberlain's most underwhelming at Liverpool to date as he failed to play a prominent role in Jurgen Klopp's side's quadruple quest. His last outing of the campaign came in the slender 1-0 FA Cup win at Nottingham Forest in March.

And his lack of game has resulted in Oxlade-Chamberlain being linked with a move away from the Reds. Aston Villa and Manchester United have both been linked with a potential transfer.

However, Murphy believes the 28-year-old could find new suitors across the Stanley Park as Everton look to build on their narrow escape from relegation with new additions.

The Toffees endured a torrid season last time out, which occurred largely under the guidance of former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez before Lampard was tasked with picking the pieces up from January onwards.

And speaking to BeMyBet, Murphy said: "We’ve seen glimpses of him [Oxlade-Chamberlain] in the Liverpool shirt where he’s been brilliant. If he can stay fit I think he would be a great addition for someone. I don’t think he’d do it, but I’m sure (Frank) Lampard would like having him around across the park.

"Maybe even somewhere like Southampton where he (Oxlade-Chamberlain) started his career where he can play and enjoy his football and be the main man."

FIFA's decision to allow countries to select a 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar this winter could be a personal motive for Oxlade-Chamberlain to pursue a move away from Liverpool this summer, in an outside bid to make what would surely be only his second major international tournament having been denied the opportunity to build on his Euro 2012 inclusion due to injuries in 2014 and 2018.

Next season, the England international will find himself competing with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabio Carvalho, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Naby Keita for a spot in Klopp's midfield.
