Liverpool midfield injury jinx strikes again as loanee ruled out for rest of season

Liverpool loanee Tyler Morton has been ruled out for the remainder of the current season after fracturing his foot.

The 20-year-old joined Blackburn Rovers ahead of the current campaign and has reaped the rewards of his temporary stay at Ewood Park, starring in 40 Championship matches for the second tier in the club's push for promotion.

Morton's latest outing came in a 1-1 draw at Preston North End on Saturday afternoon, which saw the youngster suffer a first-half injury but play on until the 89th minute.

Blackburn have only three league games remaining in their season, though sit one point outside the top six places and could be set to contest in play-off matches in the coming weeks depending on results elsewhere in the division. Regardless of whether the club are given a shot of promotion to the Premier League, Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has revealed Morton will miss out.

Issuing an update on the midfielder, Tomasson said: “He will be out for the rest of the season. He played more or less the entire second half with it, which shows he's a tough boy, but now he can’t walk."

Morton signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool earlier this year, rewarded for the progress made within the ranks of Jurgen Klopp's side. Discussing the benefits of his Blackburn spell with liverpoolfc.com after agreeing this extension, the Wallasey-born star stated: "I've been extremely proud of myself for how I've handled the loan so far. Hopefully I carry that on and take it into the next half of the season.

"I feel like I'm progressing every day and learning new things on and off the pitch. It's a lovely environment to learn and turn myself into a professional – and I think I'm doing that quite well. Hopefully it sets me up for what's to come in the future."
