Liverpool man to face extradition to US over alleged celebrity Twitter hacking

A Spanish court has agreed to extradite a Liverpool man wanted in connection with the alleged hacking of Twitter accounts of celebrities and politicians.

A court statement on Friday said requirements had been met for handing over Joseph O'Connor to US authorities on 14 charges covering crimes such as revelation of secrets, membership of a criminal gang, illegal access to computer systems, internet fraud, money laundering and extortion.

The 23-year-old allegedly took part in computer attacks including the July 2020 hacking of Twitter accounts of public figures such as Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Gates. O'Connor was arrested in the southern Spanish coastal town of Estepona in July 2021.
