Whilst watching Liverpool tear apart Manchester United’s dreams of entering the title race this season there remained a small voice in my head reminding me that Arsenal still need to make their own trip to Anfield. Whilst Manchester City have already faced their trip to Merseyside - and lost.
It was a game filled with controversy surrounding a ruled-out Man City goal that preluded a long kick from Alisson finding Mohamed Salah, who scored the only goal of the game. Although not the seven-goal drubbing dealt to Man Utd, even in what is perceived as a disappointing Liverpool season they are capable of sending any opposition packing with their tails between their legs from Anfield.
The win on Sunday was a promise to City that the Reds will certainly be at their fighting best when Arsenal arrive on Sunday, 9 April. However, the Gunners will be watching with intrigue at the clash in the week before that fixture.

The weekend prior to Arsenal’s Anfield visit, Liverpool will make their own trip to the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Selhurst Park next for a difficult away game against Crystal Palace, with Arsenal making their own trip across London to play Fulham.
The Gunners then have the chance to widen the gap at the top to eight points without reply should they then beat Palace at the Emirates. This is because with City involved in the FA Cup quarter-final, their match with West Ham United has been postponed.
Imagining both teams acquiring maximum points from these games and the gap staying at eight points as Liverpool make their way to play the champions, Arsenal could be looking at the Reds giving them the chance to widen their lead at the top to 11 points.
The City vs Liverpool game kicks off at 12:30 on Saturday, April 1 with Arsenal hosting Javi Gracia’s Leeds United in the 3pm kick-off on the same day. You’re right, I may be losing my mind but the fact the one City loss could suddenly see the gap at the top widening to more than 10 points in less than a month’s time is an exciting prospect, touch wood.
Only time will tell how things will transpire. Arguably as exciting is that Arsenal are expected to welcome back Gabriel Jesus to fold during this period, which certainly will given them a significant boost to fulfil their end of the deal.
