Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has joined football supporters in celebrating Lionel Messi’s World Cup win with Argentina.
Messi dazzled in a thrilling final as Argentina beat defending champions France on penalties after a 3-3 draw. The Paris Saint-Germain star scored either side of an Angel Di Maria strike.
The 35-year-old picked up the Golden Ball award for the tournament’s best player after firing seven goals, while he also became the first player to score in every round of the knockouts since the tournament’s expansion to 32 teams.

And former Reds skipper Gerrard joined in on Monday afternoon when he posted a picture of Messi kissing the World Cup, with the caption: 'Iconic'.
Speaking after the game at the Lusail Stadium, Messi said: “'I knew God would bring this gift to me, I had the feeling that this World Cup was the one.
“It took so long, but here it is. We suffered a lot, but we managed to do it. Can't wait to be in Argentina to witness the insanity of this.”
