Liverpool are set for one of their most important summer transfer windows in years as Jurgen Klopp tries to reshape his squad.
The Reds are enduring a disappointing season and could miss out on Champions League football if they don't improve their dismal form quickly. Klopp's men sit ninth in the Premier League table, 10 points off the top-four after losing their last two games.
Although Liverpool tend to improve going into the second half of the season, their predicament suggests they won't pick up as much as they did in the previous two campaigns. Alan Shearer has tipped the Reds to struggle as he does not think they will get better any time soon.
So, Klopp could be in for a rebuild in the summer, when a number of his players are out of contract, while others could be set for pastures new after the Reds boss suggested there could be changes at the end of the season. With that mind, here is a look at who might and might not be part of his plans going forward.
Goalkeepers
Alisson - The Brazilian has been Liverpool's best player this season and has kept them in matches where they could've been cut adrift, even at half-time. The Reds should've been behind against Brighton at the break last Saturday, only for Alisson to make a series of excellent saves to keep the scores level. KEEP
Caoimhin Kelleher - A superb back-up goalkeeper, Kelleher has been crucial when called upon in domestic cup matches and helped the Reds lift the Carabao Cup and FA Cup last season. The 24-year-old has the potential to become Liverpool's first-choice shot-stopper one day. KEEP
Adrian - Third-choice 'keeper at the Reds, Adrian has made just eight senior appearances since the start of the 2020/21 season and could be moved on to add another young, up-and-coming prospect. Despite his lack of game time, the 36-year-old is still an important squad player and no doubt contributes off the pitch on the training ground. SELL
Defenders
Trent Alexander-Arnold - Having struggled for form throughout the majority of the season, there has been some calls for Klopp to drop Alexander-Arnold from the XI. However, the England international exudes quality on his day and will no doubt improve in the coming months, especially defensively. KEEP
Calvin Ramsay - The teenager hasn't played a Premier League minute for the Reds since joining from Aberdeen in the summer, but has suffered with a number of injuries. Ramsay could benefit from a loan spell away from Anfield to get some much-needed game time, but is definitely one for the future. LOAN
Virgil van Djik - The Dutchman hasn't been at his best for the Reds this season but he is still so important and his quality was missed in the defeat by Brighton. The 31-year-old is Liverpool's best centre-back by a distance and will be crucial to the young players coming through the ranks. KEEP
Joel Matip - If Liverpool want to build for the future, players such as Matip should be sold and moved onto pastures new. However, it would be cruel to sell Matip given the service and quality he still has at disposal. With his contract running out in the summer of 2024, Matip should be handed at least another season at the Reds. KEEP
Ibrahima Konate - The 23-year-old has had a torrid time with injuries of late but returned to the fold for the trip to Brentford - a game Liverpool were humiliated in. Despite his struggles, Konate still has lots to offer and will be a valuable asset to the Reds in the future with his age and quality. KEEP
Joe Gomez - This is a really difficult one. Gomez was tipped to become Liverpool's best centre-back by many, but for one reason or another, he hasn't quite been able to put in top performances on a weekly basis. But having recently signed a new contract until 2027, Gomez's long-term future is firmly at Liverpool. KEEP
Nat Phillips - After impressing at Bournemouth last season, many Reds fans were confused as to why Phillips didn't go back to the Cherries, whether that be on loan again or on a permanent deal. The 25-year-old simply isn't good enough for Liverpool's first team and needs to go and get minutes elsewhere. SELL
Andrew Robertson - Like Alexander-Arnold, Robertson hasn't been as productive this season, with his goal contribution numbers dropping considerably. The Scotland international is still a class act and doesn't deserve to be sacrificed to bring in a younger, hungrier player in that position. KEEP
Kostas Tsimikas - The perfect back-up for Robertson, Tsimikas can easily slot into the left-back berth when required and has been doing that job for a couple of seasons now. Will stay. KEEP
Midfielders
Fabinho - He hasn't been at his best this season but Fabinho should be kept due to his experience and the quality he has. The Brazilian is sorely missed when he isn't involved and provides some rock-solid stability at the base of that midfield. KEEP
Jordan Henderson - It is safe to say Henderson's time at Liverpool is slowly coming to an end, having been a great servant to the club over the past decade. The 32-year-old will likely see out his contract until 2025 but could well be a good squad player next season, with midfield reinforcements needed. KEEP
Thiago - The Spaniard was excellent in the Reds' 1-0 win over Wolves on Tuesday and has enough quality and experience to warrant staying at Liverpool amidst a potential rebuild. Thiago, 31, hasn't quite got the legs as he did when he was younger but still brings so much to the heart of that Liverpool side. KEEP
James Milner - A "role model" for how he conducts himself in and around the club, Klopp may want to keep Milner for at least another season. However, the 37-year-old's time is surely up at the Reds as the German prepares a shake-up, especially in midfield in order for a much-improved campaign next time around. RELEASE
Naby Keita - There was so much expectation lying on Keita's shoulders when he made the £52million switch to the Reds from RB Leipzig in 2018. Although Liverpool fans have seen flashes of what he is capable of, there hasn't been consistency and Klopp could get rid given the player is out of contract at the end of the season. RELEASE
Would you keep Naby Keita? Have your say in the comments!
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - Similarly to Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain's deal runs out in the summer, and considering his injury woes, it doesn't look likely he will stay. Liverpool need to pave the way for better additions and the former Arsenal midfielder shouldn't be given a new deal. RELEASE
Stefan Bajcetic - One of Liverpool's shining lights this season, Bajcetic has been superb in the No.6 role when he's been called upon, and starred for the Reds in their win at Wolves. A star for future, Bajetic has the potential to improve and become an even better player given his tender age and experience. KEEP
Curtis Jones - Although he still only 21, Jones doesn't seem to be improving at the level some would've expected from him given his rise into the first-team back in 2019. Having seen his minutes limited due to injury and competition this season, Jones could benefit from going out on loan or being sold to get some game time. SELL/LOAN
Harvey Elliott - Another young player, Elliott, 19, has showed signs of becoming a regular face in the starting XI but hasn't quite been consistent enough on a regular basis. His performance and goal in the win over Wolves will no doubt turn heads, and he could be vital in the coming years. KEEP
Forwards
Mohamed Salah - Not been his usual self in front of goal this season but you don't lose that quality overnight and there will be a period in time where Salah gets back to his best. The Egyptian scored 23 Premier League goals last term and has chipped in with a further seven in 2022/23, accompanied with four assists. KEEP
Darwin Nunez - Very inconsistent; that is probably the best way to describe Nunez's time at the Reds so far. The Uruguayan has scored 10 goals in his first 23 matches since moving from Benfica, and a little bit more composure in front of goal will see Nunez add many more to his tally in the years to come. KEEP
Roberto Firmino - Despite coming towards the tail end of his career, Firmino has showed at times this season that he is still an important player, having directly contributed to 10 goals in 13 league games. He is out of contract in the summer, however, and may not be handed a new contract given the number of forwards at the club. RELEASE
Diogo Jota - Has missed a number of months through injury this season, but when fit, Jota is a crucial player for the Reds and can play anywhere across the front line. The Portugal forward was integral to Liverpool's title push last season and will no doubt be important when back fit. KEEP
Luis Diaz - A quality addition last January and unfortunate with the timing of his injury, Diaz's return to fitness will be welcomed by the Liverpool fans when he recovers from this latest knee issue. The Colombian is direct, quick and has excellent end product, so he will be crucial in the coming years. KEEP
Cody Gakpo - Having only joined the club from PSV earlier this month, it is too early to call whether this has been a good signing or not, but Gakpo will need time to settle into life at Anfield. Unless the Dutchman has a very poor second half of the season, Liverpool will stick with him and give him more time. KEEP
