Liverpool injury update: Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho latest news and return dates

Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements to aid their ailing campaign and good news from the club’s injury list is not far off.

Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are all pushing for returns to action this month.

Roberto Firmino could become the first of the long-term absentees to get back in the side though with Fabinho’s spell out expected to be short-lived.

Arthur Melo and Luis Diaz are still some way off though and Jurgen Klopp could do with more options as his Liverpool side struggles for form amid a crunch run of games.

Here is your latest update of Liverpool injuries and return dates...

Diogo Jota

Injured in October, Portuguese forward Jota missed the World Cup but was back in training last month when Klopp described the player as “looking really good”.

Most recently, the Reds boss revealed Jota will be back in full training this week while having his return managed. A potential playing appearance is on the cards for towards the end of February.

Virgil van Dijk

The defender was described as “getting closer” late last week in his comeback from a thigh injury.

Klopp will introduce Van Dijk to “parts” of training in the next few days with still at least a couple of weeks to go in his recovery.

Fabinho

Liverpool confirmed Fabinho was missing from the defeat at Wolves due to illness.

No further update was given but he is likely to be in the running for a spot in the squad against Everton next week, having recently been knocked out of the line-up by Stefan Bajcetic.

Ibrahima Konate

A muscle injury kept Konate out of the Wolves trip and Klopp has not put a timeframe on his return at this point, with reports suggesting a couple of weeks on the sidelines.

Klopp said: “He didn’t think it was massive, it happened in the game, I asked him after the game, ‘Are you OK?’ and he said, ‘Yeah, I’m OK.’ After the game [he had] treatment, scan, bam, out.”

Roberto Firmino

The 31-year-old has not played since the middle of December but is nearing a return from a hamstring injury.

It has been reported that he will be back in time for the Real Madrid clash in the Champions League last-16 on February 21.

Arthur Melo

It was reported in December that Arthur was ahead of schedule in his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.

In the next fortnight, he is expected to rejoin training with Klopp talking up the need for a “proper build-up” and gradual return.

Luis Diaz

Having last played on October 9, winger Diaz is back in light training in his quest to come back from a knee injury.

Klopp said last week: “Luis is running now, it will take a few weeks still but he is now out on the pitch as well running, which is really good.”
