Liverpool hit with second huge defender injury blow ahead of Man City showdown

Liverpool have been dealt another huge injury blow as they prepare to take on Manchester City this afternoon in a titanic title test.

Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley will miss the game after both picked up injuries during Wednesday's 2-0 over Real Madrid in the Champions League as Liverpool’s remarkable start to the season continued.

Konate appeared in significant pain when requiring treatment at the end of the victory over the European champions, and has been ruled out for the rest of the year.

Bradley had to come off towards the end of the game itself, and Slot was downbeat over the pair’s fitness ahead of the weekend visit of Man City.

“Let’s wait and see but it is never a good sign if players,” revealed the Reds boss on Thursday.

“Conor, I had to take him off and Ibou didn’t walk off the pitch as he should have after such a fantastic game that he played. He should have made a round [of the pitch] and clapped the fans but unfortunately he couldn’t so that’s not a good sign.”

Konate has since confirmed his injury, and now Bradley will reportedly join him in the treatment room until 2025.

In their absence, Joe Gomez is expected to deputise for Konate against City, partnership Virgil van Dijk at centre-back. Trent Alexander-Arnold has shaken off his own fitness concerns and should start at right-back.
