Liverpool 'heartbroken' after teenager dies in taxi crash

People are heartbroken following the death of a teenager, who was hit by a taxi in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Merseyside Police were called to Scotland Road at around 2.30am to reports of a collision involving a taxi and a pedestrian. The man, 19, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The taxi driver stopped and is helping police with their enquiries. Road closures were put in place this morning as emergency services attended the scene in Vauxhall.

A statement from Merseyside Police said; "We are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Vauxhall in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 24 July. At around 2.30am, emergency services were called to Scotland Road to reports of a collision involving a taxi and a pedestrian.

"Emergency services attended the scene and can sadly confirm the pedestrian, a 19-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The taxi driver stopped and is helping police with their enquiries.

"Road closures are in place while emergency services attend the incident. We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident."

And now people are expressing their heartbreak at the teenager's death.

Marie Toner said: "Heartbreaking for this young lads family. So sad", while Anna Louise Pierce commented "This road is dangerous, thinking of his family & friends at this awful time."

Sharon Davies said "Absolutely heartbreaking. Thinking of the young man’s family at this sad time. May he rest in eternal peace. Forever young", and Tracey Thompson commented: "So very sad, thoughts with his family and friends".

Bergo said the man was "sadly taken too soon", while Champions14 added: "Heartbreaking. Rest in peace young man."

Poilce have now launched an investigation into the man's death and are appealing to members of the public for information.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of a 19-year-old man who has sadly lost his life following a collision earlier this morning.

“We have now launched an investigation into his death and his family have been informed. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or properties in the area that have CCTV to please contact us. Alternatively if you were driving in the vicinity I ask that you please check your dashcam footage that may have captured the incident and to also come forward.

“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened.”
