Liverpool have left Man City worried as Manchester United plumb new depths

Liverpool secured another crucial win at home to West Ham United on Saturday, which was great to see.

In my opinion, we’ve not been playing as well as we can over the last month, but we’re keeping clean sheets and getting results, which is a really good sign, because if the likes of (Sadio) Mane do click into gear, somebody could get a pasting.

It all bodes well. though. We’re still top goalscorers and we’ve got the three top goalscorers in the league in Mane, (Mohamed) Salah and (Diogo) Jota.

We’re still winning matches but only really doing it in fits and starts in games. That shows you the quality of the manager and the squad.

In terms of whether Saturday’s nervy atmosphere will be replicated, it depends how we play. If we take our chances it’s no problem.

If we play to our best I think Man City are going to find it hard to live with us. If we keep winning games, and Chelsea too, the weight of it might take them down under. Arsenal are getting better, too.

When I think about fluidity, I look back to the team that I played in. We always played the same team week in week out. You would get telepathic to each other’s movements.

This team doesn’t have that regularity because there are so many games and it’s so intense. You’re getting a different midfield almost every game, but everyone is coming in and doing their job.

As far as the title is concerned, I’d rather have the points in the bag, but if you keep on chasing and keep on getting the points, it does worry the leading side. It adds a bit of pressure. So we’ve been brilliant to do what we’ve been doing.

We just to need to keeping getting the three points and if and when City break, be ready to capitalise.

Trent and Robbo are the business

Trent Alexander-Arnold is brilliant. You still get people questioning him, which is ridiculous. If you’re asked to go on the offensive, like he is, it’s virtually impossible to be in a defensive situation all of the time, to cover. That’s why we’ve got players like (Ibrahima) Konate.

I thought Konate and (Virgil) van Dijk were excellent at the weekend and they had to be to let our two full-backs do what they do.

I thought the two full-backs were our best players. Andy Robertson had a great game.

Alexander-Arnold, too, with his cross-shot for the goal. Any ball across the face of the box, Mane and Jota know how to get into the right areas for tap-ins.

City a top team but United a shambles

I’m always impressed with Manchester City. You couldn’t help but be. They’ve spent billions on the club, sitting where they are now.

Kevin De Bruyne is such a great player. Just a proper footballer and they’ve got other players who can hurt you.

You can say that they are a fantastic team with a fantastic manager, but so are we.

As for Manchester United, they are struggling where they are at the moment. It’s was always going to happen when Alex Ferguson relinquished his job.

I think he saw that the cracks were happening and it was a good time for him to get out. An ageing team, ageing squad and an ageing ground.

They’re light years away from Liverpool and City now. Long may it continue.

I never actually thought in my lifetime I would see United be as bad as they are with the amount of money that they always spend.

They’re like Liverpool. They’re global massively. But they’re not a football club, they’re a PLC.

To see where they are now - and the stock market has crashed on them a little bit - they're as low as they can probably get I think.

When you buy superstars like (Edinson) Cavani and (Cristiano) Ronaldo, you need bricklayers. It’s an old saying but they haven’t got them.

But on their day they can still be very dangerous and Liverpool will need to be wary of that when they eventually face them at Anfield.
