Liverpool have been given a major boost ahead of their Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on Wednesday evening, with the return to training of three players.
Centre-back Joel Matip was photographed all smiles at the AXA training ground in Kirkby on Monday afternoon, as he joined in exercises and sessions with the main group.
The 31-year-old has not played for the Reds since the opening day draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage - but now looks to be back in contention soon after recovering from a muscle strain.

Whether he is deemed fit enough to potentially dislodge Joe Gomez, who partnered Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s emphatic 9-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend, remains to be seen.
Jurgen Klopp's midfield options have been increased with the return of Curtis Jones as well. Jones is yet to figure this term after pulling up with a problem during the back end of pre-season. But with Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita seemingly all still sidelined, his apparent return to full training is timely.
Also back in some form of training is new signing Calvin Ramsay. The 19-year-old right-back has been rehabilitating after a minor issue was identified during his medical assessment.
Ramsey joined from Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen and will provide cover and competition for regular right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. It is not clear whether Ramsay was taking part in full training, or just stepping up to the final stages of recovery.
Harvey Elliott was also seen in the images released by Liverpool - but it was unclear whether he joined the main group, or was undertaking a solo session after his precautionary withdrawal from action at the weekend.
The youngster was taken off at half-time during the win against Bournemouth, with Klopp later explaining: "Harvey felt just a little bit. In no other game we would take him off but when 5-0 up, we thought if that’s not the moment, then the moment will never come again. Nothing after the game. The assessment is good. He should be completely fine.”
