Liverpool handed European headache by Man City and Man United as Premier League fixtures confirmed

While Liverpool now know their Premier League fixtures for the 2023/24 season, they will have to wait a little while longer yet until they discover their Europa League commitments.

The Reds are one of only 12 sides already confirmed to be in this season’s group-stages, with the draw not taking place until September 1 following the conclusion of qualification rounds. Liverpool are guaranteed to be seeded in pot one at least, earning them what should be a more favourable draw.

But while Jurgen Klopp’s side won’t find out their group-stage opponents until September, they do know when such games will take place, and now how they’ll fit into their Premier League schedule. However, it is worth noting that a number of their domestic fixtures will not take place on Saturday, as initially scheduled on fixture release day, due to their European exploits on Thursday nights.

Matchday one will take place on Thursday 21 September. Liverpool will travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 16 September before their opening Europa League game of the season, with their subsequent Premier League clash with West Ham United at Anfield, currently scheduled for Saturday 23 September, pushed back to Sunday 24 or Monday 25 September as a result.

The Reds will travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 30 September before Europa League matchday two takes place on Thursday 5 October. They are then scheduled to be in action away at Brighton & Hove Albion when returning to Premier League action, with that game pushed back to Sunday 8 or Monday 9 October as a result.

Europa League matchday three will take place on Thursday 26 October. Liverpool’s preceding Premier League fixture will see them host Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season on Saturday 21 October, while they will follow up their European exploits with a home clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday 29 or Monday 30 October.

Matchday four is scheduled for Thursday 9 November, with the Reds heading into that fixture off the back of a trip to newly-promoted Luton Town on Saturday 4 November. They will then follow it up with the visit of Brentford to Anfield on Sunday 12 or Monday 13 November.

Liverpool then return to Europa League action for matchday five on Thursday 30 November. A trip to Premier League champions Man City on Saturday 25 November precedes that fixture, with a home clash with Fulham following it on Sunday 3 or Monday 4 December.

The Europa League group-stages then conclude on Thursday 14 December with matchday six. The Reds are due to travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday 9 December prior to their final European group game, before hosting Manchester United on Sunday 17 or Monday 18 December.

Should Liverpool top their group, they will progress to the Europa League round-of-16, with the two legs scheduled for Thursday 7 and 14 March. Finish second, and they’ll have to navigate the knockout round play-offs on Thursday 15 and 22 February.

And if they finish third in their four-team group, they’ll transfer to the Europa Conference League, entering at its corresponding knockout round play-offs which is also scheduled to take place on Thursday 15 and 22 February.

While Liverpool won't be thinking beyond the Europa League group-stages as things stand, and won't find out who they are facing until September, the Reds' Premier League fixtures make it even more beneficial for Klopp's men to qualify with games to spare, due to their final group games falling after a trip to Man City and before Manchester United visit Anfield.

But while the timing of meetings with the likes of Everton and Spurs could also make Liverpool's European exploits tricky, the Reds will at least be pleased to see that all but one of their Premier League matches after Europa League group-stage action will take place at Anfield.
