Liverpool goalkeeper 'worth £20m' could be tempted to move this summer

Liverpool could be in the hunt for a new reserve goalkeeper this summer, if their current number two is intent on first-team football.

Caoimhin Kelleher earned high praise for his performances in cup competitions last season, playing a significant role in helping the Reds to win the Carabao Cup, which included scoring a sudden-death penalty at Wembley himself.

But the Cork-born stopper has found his opportunities severely limited this season, making just three appearances in domestic cup competitions. The Reds' first-choice, Alisson Becker, has enjoyed a stellar campaign and could well be on course to be crowned the club's player of the season, but that has left Kelleher in a situation where he may need to consider his options.

The Athletic's Liverpool journalist and former ECHO reporter James Pearce believes that there is a good chance that a move away from Anfield in the summer could suit both parties with Jurgen Klopp able to cash in on his talented goalkeeper. And given the opportunity to play regular first-team football, the 24-year-old Irishman would probably jump at the opportunity.

Pearce wrote: “Caoimhin Kelleher could leave if he’s offered the chance to be a No 1 elsewhere and I reckon he’s worth £20m.”

Liverpool have five senior players out of contract in the summer, but could be looking at opportunities to raise transfer funds through other player exits this summer, as Klopp looks to rebuild his squad after a disappointing campaign.

Kelleher has made more appearances for the Republic of Ireland this season than he has for the Reds, turning out five times for his country. He has also been included in Stephen Kenny's squad to face Latvia and France during the current international break.
