Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told Liverpool why new signing Cody Gakpo is better value for money than Joao Felix as the latter is linked with big money moves to Manchester United and Arsenal.
The Reds completed the signing of Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the January transfer window. An initial fee of £37 million will be paid to the Eredivisie club with add-ons taking the total fee to more than £40m.
Gakpo made his official Liverpool debut against Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday. His Premier League bow could well come against Brighton this weekend, and now the Reds’ new boy has been praised by one of his fellow countrymen.

Former Chelsea star and ex-Netherlands international Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has praised Gakpo following his move to Liverpool. He also went on to say that the Reds’ latest signing is better value for money than Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.
Both Arsenal and Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Felix over the last few weeks. And Hasselbaink reckons that Gakpo was an astute signing by the Reds.
“Jurgen Klopp chose Cody Gakpo because he's better value for money,” Hasselbaink told Betway. “Gakpo was £40million whereas Joao Felix is likely to cost £80-90 million.
“Gakpo is also a little bit younger, there's a lot of improvement in him and Klopp thinks that he is going to be a star.
“Gakpo isn't the finished article yet but he's going to be a star and I think he is more suitable for the English game.
“That's why I think Klopp chose to sign Gakpo ahead of all the other options.”
