Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has taken to social media and delivered an encouraging injury update.
Mamardashvili, deputising for Alisson Becker, was stretchered off during the Merseyside derby win over Everton on Sunday as Arne Slot was forced to hand Freddie Woodman a Liverpool Premier League debut.
When asked for an update following the game, Slot revealed that Mamardashvili had been taken to hospital after sustaining a “big wound” but was optimistic of avoiding a goalkeeping crisis.
“He has gone off to hospital,” Slot told Sky Sports.
“It looked to me, and that’s also what they told me, that he had a big wound – an open wound. That’s of course not going to be a long-term injury. Let’s see if he is available for next week.
“We’ve had almost in all positions our problems and now even two goalkeepers being out.
“So it’s a good thing that we have three goalkeepers, because we usually don’t have three full-backs or three No.9s or three left wingers, and now it happens in a position where we have three players.”
Mamardashvili has since broken his silence on the injury, thanking Liverpool supporters for their kind messages and vowing to make a swift recovery.
"Thank God everything is fine," Mamardashvili wrote on Instagram. "Thank you all so much for your support and for being by my side. I’ll be back soon.
“Big win in the derby and 3 points."
In Mamardashvili’s absence, Woodman kept a clean sheet as Liverpool snatched all three points in stoppage-time thanks to a Virgil van Dijk header.
Liverpool are back in action on Saturday, hosting Crystal Palace at Anfield as they bid to avenge defeats in the Community Shield, Premier League and Carabao Cup earlier in the season.
