In a touching post on Facebook, his family said: "We know so many of Joseph’s friends would love to say their farewells to him and pay their respects to his loving family. It’s hard to believe that he was taken at such a young age and so unexpectedly. You were the salt of the earth Joe, always had time for everyone and always wore the best smile."
Following the sudden death of Joey, his older brother John, 50, took a banner to the FA Cup replay away at Wolves on Tuesday, January 17. The banner read: "Joey Silker followed the Reds everywhere. RIP."
The post continued: "We know the Kop is missing you but I’m sure there’s a Kop in heaven that you’ll become a massive part of. We all send our condolences to Kath his lovely mum, his sister Paula who adored you, John his brother, who made the best memories with you & Nathan who always looked up to you.
"To all his family and friends, of which there are many, keep strong for each other and keep Joe in your thoughts, always. May your dreams be tossed and blown Joe. Imagine all the great reds who’ll have your presence for eternity."
