Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp makes Man City prediction ahead of Premier League final day

Jurgen Klopp admits it's 'not likely' that Liverpool will win the Premier League title on Sunday, but has warned Manchester City that they will be ready to take advantage if the Blues slip up.

Liverpool beat Southampton on Tuesday to take the title race to the final day, but still trail City by a point. If Liverpool are to win the title, they need to win at home to Wolves and hope City don't beat Aston Villa. To complicate matters, Villa play relegation-threatened Burnley on Thursday, while City will have had a full week to prepare.

Klopp acknowledged that City remain strong favourites to seal the title on Sunday's final round of fixtures, but he insisted Liverpool won't give up as long as there remains a chance.

"It is possible, not likely but possible. That is enough," Klopp said. "We never gave up and we'll give it a try. It's our home game, last home game of season. The atmosphere will be outstanding. We'll try to use it. We have to do our job. Football is a tricky game sometimes. We'll see but you have to focus on yourselves.

"Of course it is unlikely because City play at home against Aston Villa, who play only on Thursday. It will be tough against Burnley, they fight for survival.

"But it is football. I think the time when City became champion [in 2019] it was because of 11 millimetres [John Stones' fine clearance]. If someone wants us to be champion then we have to win first and Aston Villa need to get a point at City. We have to first win our game. It is not like we are talking about Wolves like they are not there.

"If I was in the other situation, then I don't feel like I am champion already. From my point of view, in second, you are thinking that of course City will win that game. But it is football."

Klopp also insisted that he won't speak with Liverpool legend and Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard before Sunday, mainly because he has two games to prepare for in the coming days.

He said: "No, of course not, Stevie prepares now for Burnley, who are fighting for everything. It's Villa's last home game. They will play that game and then collect the bones and go again on Sunday.

"There is no reason to talk to him. We know that Villa wants to win for Villa. That's it. The only way I can see it is if it was the other way round, I wouldn't think it was done."
