Liverpool fans were left laughing at Roberto Firmino ’s reaction to a horrendous miss from Darwin Nunez in the Reds’ cruise against Ajax on Wednesday evening.
The Merseyside outfit overcame the Eredivisie champions with ease with a straightforward 3-0 victory. Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez all got on the scoresheet.
The Uruguayan will be thankful that he managed to score with an excellent header following an inexplicable miss during the first-half of the clash. After Salah had given the Reds the lead somewhat against the run of play with an astounding finish, Nunez looked sure to double the advantage.
The former Benfica man latched onto Firmino’s low cross and was set ready to roll the ball home at the back post with Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer out of his goal.
Somehow, Nunez thundered his effort against the post to the surprise of the vast majority of spectators and even his own teammates. Creator Firmino turned around in bemusement, with his confusion at the miss even leading him to look towards the linesman.
A number of Liverpool fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Firmino’s reaction. One wrote: "Firmino’s reaction to Nunez’s miss is priceless." Another added: "Look at Firmino’s reaction man. He literally gave it to him."

A third added" Firmino should be punching up Nunez in the dressing room he got robbed of an assist."
Whilst it might take a while for Nunez to live down the shocking miss, he did however manage to make up for it in the second period as he managed to guide home Andrew Robertson’s corner in the 49th minute. Elliott then extended the advantage even further just a couple of minutes later.
Nunez’s strike takes his record to six goals in 13 appearances since his big-money switch from Benfica in the summer - three of those having come in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has found the net in two out of his last three league appearances having missed the 1-0 reverse at the hands of Nottingham Forest. He will certainly be hopeful of continuing his recent positive run against a struggling Leeds United side this weekend with the two set to face off at Anfield.
Salah in the meantime will also be aiming to find the net once more having notched his tenth goal of the season in the victory in Amsterdam, whilst he already has six career goals against Leeds United in just four appearances.
The Yorkshire club currently find themselves slumped in the relegation zone having won just two out of their opening 11 Premier League games of the campaign.
