A lifelong Liverpool fan who sings You'll Never Walk Alone to himself each day after being detained last year has been sentenced to 14 years in jail.
Andrei Aliaksandrau was detained in his native Belarus in January 2021 on charges of “organisation and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them”. The charges were later ramped up to include high treason.
Belarusian authorities accused journalist Andrei and his partner Iryna Zlobina of financing protests that spread around Belarus in 2020 after President Alexander Lukashenko returned to power. The elections were marred by claims of widespread fraud.
