Liverpool face more fixture chaos as Premier League 'consider switch' for Chelsea game

The Premier League are considering switching all London-based games next weekend - including Liverpool’s planned trip to Chelsea - to away fixtures.

According to the Athletic, suggestions to move games currently at Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Brentford to the opposition grounds comes in a bid to avoid another weekend of postponed fixtures, with concerns over policing and security available in the capital around the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. All of this weekend’s games were postponed on Friday as a mark of respect after the long-standing monarch passed away, aged 96, on Thursday afternoon.

Having a full weekend of games to reschedule will already cause huge headaches in the Premier League, with a six-week winter hiatus due to the 2022 World Cup and an already congested fixture list - the next available midweek slot is in mid-January. Having a second week of games cancelled - even partially - would be chaos, especially for teams likely to go a long way in Europe and cup competitions.
