Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott has been praised after featuring for Liverpool under-23s for the second time in a month.
Elliott played 45 minutes for the Reds’ under-23 side on Monday in their 4-0 win over Leicester City. He also appeared in a 2-2 draw against Chelsea on April 2. The midfielder hasn’t been in the Reds’ past five Premier League matchday squads and last featured in the FA Cup quarter-final victory over Nottingham Forest last month. During yesterday’s clash, Tyler Morton and Rhys Williams also played as Liverpool moved up to fifth place in the Premier League 2.
Under-23s manager Barry Lewtas was pleased with Elliott’s cameo. He told the club’s official website: “We had a strong midfield out with Tyler, Leighton Clarkson and Harvey - we are a top club and that is the level of players we have at this club.

“The likes of Harvey and Rhys Williams want to play and get their minutes, they want to stay sharp and if they are called upon by our manager, they want to be ready. It just shows the character that we have at this club. The lads want to play and they understand what they need to do to get to the next level. Harvey’s attitude and his performances - he is a credit to himself and a credit to the club as well.”
Elliott has made 10 appearances for Liverpool’s first team this season and scored his first goal for the club in an FA Cup fourth round victory over Cardiff City. Twelve substitutes are permitted on the bench for Jurgen Klopp in tomorrow’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Villareal. Following victory over Everton Klopp said that the midfielder is 'in brilliant shape'. Elliott will hope Monday's cameo and Klopp's glowing reference means that he will be part of the matchday squad at Anfield.
