Not content with dominating on the pitch, Virgil van Dijk is now involved in esports, with the defender now an ambassador and shareholder in esports organisation Tundra.
Known for having some of the best international esports players in their roster, Tundra is a London-based esports organisation, representing some of the biggest names in DOTA 2, FIFA and Fortnite. With Van Dijk becoming a new ambassador and shareholder for Tundra, he joins other football stars such as David Beckham, Sergio Aguero and Jesse Lingard on the esports scene.
The Liverpool defender is known for being a fan of gaming himself, with some of his favourite games being FIFA, Fortnite and a selection of sim racing games. Now, the Liverpool defender has immersed himself further into the world of esports through this partnership.

“I am extremely excited to be joining Tundra Esports," said Van Dijk. "Tundra Esports is one of the fastest growing esports organisations in the world and they are moving in a very exciting direction.
"They have built up a tremendous reputation when it comes to player well-being within a winning culture which is something that really resonates with me. I’m excited for the future."
The 31-year-old's role at Tundra will involve helping grow the overall brand of the esports organisation, whilst also providing support and mentorship for the Tundra esports players. This will include a strong focus on performance and sportsmanship - a field of expertise for Van Dijk.
Maxim Demin, Owner and Co-Founder of Tundra Esports, claims the arrival of the Netherlands international will provide an invaluable insight to help evolve Tundra.
“This is a major moment for Tundra. Having someone like Virgil, who is highly revered both on and off the pitch, join our team is incredible. His insight will be invaluable for our players but also how we evolve as an organisation. We have so much we can learn from sports.”
Still growing, the global esports market is expected to reach over $12b by 2030, with general esports gaining over 475 million active watchers worldwide. Van Dijk was announced in the first official grime gaming song, OUTPLAYED, created by Tundra ambassador and British Grime artist, P Money.
