Liverpool confirm 'serious' injury blow ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota will miss this weekend's meeting with Nottingham Forest, Jurgen Klopp confirmed in a press conference on Tuesday.

The former Wolves attacker was stretchered off the pitch deep into stoppage time of their 1-0 win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday. Now the extent of his calf injury has been revealed.

Klopp says that the Portuguese will not need an operation, but will be out of action for "months". That rules him out of not just Saturday's game at the City Ground, but the World Cup as well.

"Really not good news about Diogo. Yes, he will miss the World Cup," the German told the Liverpool Echo. "A pretty serious injury in the calf muscle. And now the recovery starts, or the process starts. Let me say it like this.

"That's it pretty much. That's the first diagnosis which is pretty clear. All the rest will now follow in the next few days. Very sad news for the boy, for us of course as well, and for Portugal. For everybody. But no (he doesn't need an operation).

After the news was confirmed, Jota tweeted: "After such a good night at Anfield mine ended in the worst way! In the last minute one of my dreams collapsed. I will be one more supporting from the outside, club and country, and fighting to be back as soon as possible. You'll Never Walk Alone."

The blow adds to Liverpool's ever increasing list of injury problems. Luis Diaz is "not even close" to returning from his knee injury, while defender Ibrahim Konate is not expected to return until next week.

Klopp says that Joel Matip is "still a bit away", while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are also unlikely to feature against Forest.
