Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has been fined £7,000 and handed a touchline ban after being charged with breaching Football Association rules in the wake of the Reds' 2-1 win against Newcastle United last month.
Fabio Carvalho ’s 98th-minute winner prompted both sets of backroom staff to clash on the Anfield touchline, with the Dutchman caught on camera gesturing towards the Newcastle bench as Liverpool and their fans wildly celebrated the late goal.
Having admitted his behaviour was improper, and that he used abusive and insulting gestures, Achterberg has been banned, fined and warned for breaching FA rule E3. An independent Regulatory Commission has fined the Liverpool coach £7,000, banned him from the touchline for one fixture and warned him of his future conduct.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United coach Daniel Hodges has been handed a similar punishment for his involvement in the fracas, after the FA investigated what appeared to be a member of Newcastle’s staff a throwing a bottle into the Liverpool technical area during the closing stages of the match.
Also admitting his behaviour was improper, Hodges has also been banned, fined and warned for breaching FA rule E3. Handed a £6,000 fine, the Newcastle coach will also serve a one-game touchline ban and has been warned regarding his future conduct.
Liverpool are next in action at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on October 1st.
