A Mohamed Salah penalty was enough for the Reds to make it five wins on the bounce for the first time this season with a campaign in the Europa League next season looking likely.
Man United have a chance to extend their lead over Liverpool in the league table to seven points on Thursday night when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, in one of their two games in hand.

Liverpool face another match at Anfield on Saturday when they welcome Brentford to Merseyside with another win on their minds before travelling to relegation battling Leicester City.
The Reds will then host Unai Emery's impressive Aston Villa side in what will be the final game at Anfield of this Premier League season. Jurgen Klopp's men will then end their campaign on the south coast at Southampton.
Many factors are still undecided in the league and it is extremely tight at the bottom of the table with five teams all fighting for their lives. The battle for European football is still ongoing with Liverpool in the thick of the action while Manchester City look set to win their third title in a row.
