Liverpool 'banned' from pre-season training camp as Jurgen Klopp plans thrown into chaos

Liverpool look set to miss out on their pre-season plans in the south of Germany due to the local community not wanting the club in the area.

Jurgen Klopp wanted the club to set up base this summer at the Tegernsee training camp in the Bavarian region of Germany. The picturesque base is around an hour’s drive away from Munich on the banks of Lake Tegernsee in the Bavarian Alps which the Reds last visited for pre-season in the summer of 2017.

The Reds had planned to stay in the five-star Uberfahrt hotel and to use the training facilities of FC Rottach in Rottach-Egern. However, those plans look set to be thrown out the window due to local unhappiness about the trip.

It is claimed by German outlet Bild that the local community was left unhappy by the Reds last visit six years ago. Specifically, there was unhappiness about the cleanliness that the facilities were left in alongside the condition of the pitch.

It has been claimed by reports in Germany that Klopp wanted to take his squad back to the area this summer but looks set to be frustrated with a change of plans now required.

Further to that, a hearing in a Munich district court at the time decided that Liverpool had to pay out €3k (£2.6k) for damage caused to a press tent during their trip. Mirror Football has contacted Liverpool for comment.

The report adds that Bayern Munich will use those facilities including the same luxury and training facilities between 15-20 July. The facilities are clearly in high demand among top football clubs with Thomas Tuchel sharing the same idea as Klopp.

Ironically, Liverpool are due to play Bayern Munich in pre-season. The two sides are set to meet in Singapore on 2 August, four days after the Reds play Leicester City in the same nation.

Liverpool often begin their pre-season preparations with a training retreat in central Europe before embarking on a pre-season tour – usually either of the US or the Far East.

This is a massive summer for the Reds after a hugely disappointing campaign in which they finished without major silverware and have also missed out on a Champions League place. Klopp will be intent on bolstering his squad over the close-season with multiple signings to bridge the gap.
