Liverpool attacking transfer options as two places may open in Jurgen Klopp squad

While there is limited time remaining in the January transfer window, Liverpool have been consistently linked with revamping their wide options throughout the month.

An area of the squad that came under significant scrutiny due to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s commitments at the Africa Cup of Nations, it may still prove to be a position that the Reds address in the summer.

Questions remain over the long-term future of both Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi , while Jurgen Klopp will want to avoid being overly reliant on his preferred striking options, meaning there could arguably be two spots to fill in the near future.

Having been touted with moves for young prospects as well as slightly more established stars, here’s a look at the wide players that may end up at Anfield in the coming months...

Jarrod Bowen

A name that surprised a few onlookers when it emerged that Liverpool were monitoring the West Ham forward, Bowen has since proven why he was on the Reds’ radar.

The 25-year-old has been a vital cog in David Moyes’ transformation of West Ham into genuine contenders for a Champions League spot.

Bowen has scored six and provided nine assists in 23 league games this term, according to Transfermarkt, to place himself on the verge of his first England call-up.

Occupying the right wing for the Hammers, Bowen has previously admitted that he takes inspiration from Mohamed Salah to improve his performances.

However, as a key member of West Ham’s high-flying side and with a contract until 2025, he would likely command a significant fee, if Liverpool were to pursue the winger.

Fabio Carvalho

The Fulham youngster is more of a work in progress, when compared to a Premier League star such as Bowen.

Carvalho, aged 19, has played in the number 10 role for Marco Silva’s promotion-chasing side this season, with the teenager contributing 11 combined goals and assists in 17 games.

Similarly to Bowen though, the ECHO understands that Liverpool are monitoring the attacking midfielder, who scored on his first Premier League start back in May 2021.

However, given that the England youth international currently has six months remaining on his current deal, Carvalho would cost considerably less than some of the other names on this list - but would perhaps be a more long-term project.

Luis Diaz

The Colombian has been a constant presence on the Liverpool rumour mill following his impressive performances for Porto.

Since being discussed with a possible move to Everton last summer, Diaz has scored 14 goals in 18 league games this season, playing from the left-wing.

It has been reported that the 25-year-old has an €80m release clause, meaning any move from Liverpool would represent serious competition for Sadio Mane’s place.

However, the Reds aren’t the only team said to be aware of Diaz’s quality, with Tottenham reported to have made a move for the winger this month, while it has been claimed that Manchester United also hold an interest in the forward.

Cody Gakpo

Like Fabio Carvalho, a move for PSV Eindhoven's Gakpo would symbolise a more subtle approach in Liverpool’s transfer business.

Despite being in January, the 22-year-old has already recorded his best numbers in terms of goal involvements this term, with 16 combined goals and assists in 15 Eredivisie games.

It has been reported by Dutch media that both Liverpool and Manchester City have had “exploratory talks” with the left-winger - while PSV technical director John de Jong has confessed that it is “hard to say” whether Gakpo will stay at the club this summer.

A player that has worn the captain’s armband at points for PSV this season, Gakpo has admitted he is likely to extend his contract until 2026, ensuring the club will get a considerable fee, if he is to move on.

PSV’s record sale currently stands in the region of €40m for Hirving Lozano, meaning that Gakpo could be a cheaper alternative to Luis Diaz, while likely being an understudy to Sadio Mane .

Karim Adeyemi

RB Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi is the only player on this list that would have offered competition to Roberto Fimino and Diogo Jota’s central spot in the Liverpool forward line.

The striker had been touted as being a possible target for the Reds, after coming to wider attention following his three goals and two assists in six Champions League games this season.

Adeyemi’s prolific form in front of goal - 14 goals in 17 league games - led to him making his Germany debut as a 19-year-old in September, where he came off the bench to score against Armenia.

However, latest reports from Sky Germany have suggested that the forward is set to move to Borussia Dortmund, with “concrete negotiations” having started between the two clubs.
