Arne Slot says he understands the booing from Liverpool fans following the draw against Tottenham.

Despite taking the lead in the 18th minute through Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick, Liverpool were unable to press ahead with their advantage and were stung late on.

Richarlison equalised as the clocked ticked into stoppage time to earn Spurs a deserved draw, as the Reds failed to capitalise on Chelsea and Aston Villa losing in the race for Champions League qualification.

It is the second successive Premier league game in which Liverpool have conceded a late goal, having lost to Wolves earlier in the month.

Some Liverpool supporters voiced their frustration at Anfield after the full-time whistle with loud boos, while the likes of Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah cut frustrated figures before heading down the tunnel.

“No, I think it is completely normal,” Slot told Sky Sports when asked about the boos.

“If the team you are supporting drop so many points against teams you don't expect them to so many times in the last seconds of a game then I think we all feel a lot of frustration.

"They have experienced this far too many times, more times than they are used to and that is completely normal that they show their frustration. The frustration is felt by me, by the players and also by our fans.

"I'm 100% sure that if they show up on Wednesday [against Galatasaray in the Champions League] that they will be supportive again from the start but if the team doesn't perform to the standards that they are used to, I think it is completely normal that they are frustrated."
