Liverpool are 'scouting Spain star at the request of Jurgen Klopp'

Liverpool are being linked with potential interest in young Spain forward Nico Williams.

With the 2022 World Cup currently underway in Qatar, the Reds are likely to be keeping an eye on possible future signings across the tournament. Liverpool have seven players of their own involved in the competition in the Middle East.

One of the players being linked with a move to Liverpool is Williams. The Athletic Bilbao starlet appeared as a substitute in Spain’s 1-1 draw with Germany on Sunday night.

According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes , the Reds are one of two clubs looking at the possibility of signing Williams. Serie A giants Juventus are also being credited with an interest in the 20-year-old.

The report states that Liverpool are closely monitoring the player’s situation at Bilbao. Jurgen Klopp is also reported to have made the request for the club to track the progress of Williams.

Manchester United have also previously been linked with a move for Williams. However, the latest report states that it’s just Liverpool and Juventus currently showing an interest.

It has been claimed in the article that Juventus are keen to take advantage of Williams’ contract situation and make a move for the player. The forward’s contract is set to expire in 2024, and will enter the final 12 months of his deal at the end of the season.

Nico is the younger brother of Inaki Williams, who is currently captain of Athletic Bilbao. Having both progressed through Bilbao’s youth ranks, Inaki has been at the club since the age of 16 and has made 355 appearances for the Spanish club.
