Jurgen Klopp has had a lot of issues to deal with this season. His squad came into the 2022/23 campaign on the back of the longest running quadruple bid in history and with a shorter than normal summer in which to recover from it.
This will have undoubtedly impacted the fitness of the squad. Liverpool have been without an average of 6.6 players per game thanks to injury, and never fewer than five for any individual fixture.
This in turn will have made it harder to integrate the big money summer signing up front, with Darwin Nunez’s brainless red card against Crystal Palace only hampering the process further. It’s easy to see how one problem can spiral into another and create a snowball effect that seriously undermines a season.
