Liverpool and Manchester United set for special fixture on eve of Premier League season end

Liverpool and Manchester United Legends will face off against each other in May, it has today been announced.

The match will take place at Old Trafford on Saturday, May 21, with all profits going towards the Manchester United Foundation.

Teams for this occasion are yet to be announced, though Bryan Robson has been confirmed as the Red Devils' manager.

“It’s always exciting playing against Liverpool; even in legends games that rivalry is still there," Robson said.

"But, it is also about raising money for Manchester United Foundation, which really helps to encourage and educate young people in communities across Greater Manchester.”

Prior to taking on United, Liverpool are hosting a separate Legends game against Barcelona at Anfield on March 26.

A full squad is yet to be announced, though Steve McManaman, Patrik Berger, Vladimir Smicer and John Aldridge will be part of the management team.

The Reds have been staging fixtures of this kind on home soil since 2017, with the first match of this kind played against Real Madrid Legends such as Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo.

Bayern Munich were the next side to visit L4 in 2018, followed by AC Milan in 2019.

No game was scheduled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
