Liverpool and Everton to unite to raise funds for victims of Turkey-Syria earthquake

Liverpool and Everton will use Monday's Merseyside derby to raise funds for those affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Players' match-worn shirts will be signed after the Anfield fixture and later auctioned off to support the Disasters Emergency Committee - where funds will be distributed to support those impacted by the disaster, where more than 22,000 have already lost their lives as a result.

Money raised for the DEC will help provide those in the region with much-needed accommodation, medical care and essential food and water to survive the uncertain times. The Premier League has also announced all players and officials across the division will wear black armbands as a mark of respect this weekend.

A joint statement from Liverpool and Everton read: "Everyone associated with both clubs has been left deeply saddened by the destruction and huge loss of life as a result of the earthquakes, and the funds raised from the auction will help deliver much-needed aid directly to those affected.

"More than 22,000 people are now known to have died in the earthquakes, with many more injured, missing or displaced. Hospitals and schools are among the countless buildings to have collapsed and, with freezing winter conditions hitting both countries, humanitarian needs are expected to grow in the coming days.

"Details of the online auction of match shirts will be confirmed in due course. Supporters can also donate to the appeal directly by visiting dec.org.uk

"The thoughts of everyone at Everton and Liverpool continue to be with all those affected by Monday’s earthquakes."
