English football clubs will take police advice regarding this weekend’s fixtures - with games encouraged to take ‘wherever possible’.
The Premier League’s already congested fixture schedule was hit on Friday when the FA announced the postponement of all weekend football matches as a mark of respect following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
There is further concern of a second weekend of postponements given the upcoming state funeral. And now a new report from The Times has suggested 'the strain on police resources before and during the Queen’s funeral may lead to postponements in the Premier League this weekend'. But the report adds that the government will meet with all major sporting bodies this morning (Monday, September 12) with the intention to encourage fixtures to go ahead under police advice and ‘wherever possible.’
