The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been activated in Liverpool as snow covers large parts of the region.
All across our region there is now heavy snowfall, which is causing problems for public transport and for people getting around in general.
Liverpool City Council has now announced that something called the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol has been activated. This is a measure that is taken to try and protect and support rough sleepers in the city during difficult weather.

The council operates this system alongside the Whitechapel homeless charity, based in Langsdale Street. The protocol means that the Whitechapel's outreach team is looking for anyone sleeping rough in this weather who they will help to find shelter.
A message on Liverpool Council's twitter account this morning stated: "The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been activated in Liverpool. If you see anyone sleeping rough, please call anytime on 0300 123 2041 and our outreach team will make a visit to offer support and shelter."
The Whitechapel team will act on information provided to locate those sleeping rough on the streets and offer them shelter away from the difficult weather.
A statement on the charity's website reads: "The Whitechapel Centre is co-ordinating the Liverpool outreach response to rough sleeping as part of the Always Help Available campaign. By providing us with information about someone you think may be sleeping rough you will be helping us ensure no one ever needs to sleep for a second night on the street. Our outreach team is out 24 hours, encouraging anyone sleeping rough to come indoors & access emergency accommodation. Call anytime 0300 123 2041."
