Trump news today: Jack Smith seeks protective order over Truth Social ‘threat’

Persecution’: Watch Trump’s reaction after leaving DC court after arrest

Donald Trump attacked the latest federal indictment against him, Special Counsel Jack Smith and the Biden administration’s regulations, during a longwinded speech on the campaign trail in South Carolina.

Mr Trump spoke to supporters on Saturday night at a GOP gala – just days after being indicted and arraigned on four federal charges related to his alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.

“We call it a sham indictment,” Mr Trump said. “They are trying to make it illegal to question the results of an election.”

He went on to unleash his typical attacks on Mr Smith who he called “mentally ill”, “deranged” and “a sick man.”

Later in his rally speech, the ex-president went on a bizarre tangent about showers and his “gorgeous head of hair”.

Earlier in the day, the judge overseeing Mr Trump’s election case ordered his legal team to respond by Monday evening to prosecutors’ request for a protective order prompted by a seemingly threatening post on Truth Social.
