Live updates from Anfield as police cordon off road and house

A cordon is in place around a house and road in Anfield.

Emergency services are on Priory Round, at the junction with Utting Avenue. North West Ambulance service is at the scene and officers can be seen close to police tape.

Forensic officers have arrived at the scene, wearing white overalls and hair nets.

Four schoolchildren arrested as man fights for life after attack

Four schoolchildren have been arrested after an attack in Bootle.

Merseyside Police confirmed a man was assaulted by a gang of young people in the early hours of Tuesday, July 12. A police cordon was set up near Bootle Strand Shopping centre on Stanley Road.

At around 1.15am, and took a man to hospital with serious injuries. An 11 year-old girl and three boys aged 13, 14, and 15 on suspicion of s18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

TUI cancels flights and holidays after Foreign Office update

TUI has cancelled more holidays and flights as Sri Lanka declares a nationwide state of emergency.

The president of Sri Lanka fled the country following mounting pressure from protesters after fuel and food shortages caused by an economic crisis. The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has advised that only essential travel be made to the country.

In a statement, TUI said: "Due to the ongoing political and economic instability in Sri Lanka, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) have advised against all but essential travel. As a result, we’ve unfortunately had to cancel all holidays to Sri Lanka departing up to and including 31 July 2022."
