Live updates and highlights from Bears’ preseason opener vs. Titans

The Chicago Bears kick off their three-game preseason slate against the Tennessee Titans Saturday at Soldier Field.

After two weeks of training camp practices, the Bears will finally get to play against another team. Head coach Matt Eberflus said that select starters will play in limited fashion, including quarterback Justin Fields and wide receiver DJ Moore.

Tennessee went 75 yards in 12 plays to score on the opening possession. Malik Willis ran it in for a 2-yard touchdown. Titans lead 7-0 in the first quarter.

Chicago’s offense went 75 yards in three plays to tie the game. DJ Moore scored on a 62-yard touchdown catch and run in the first quarter.

Chicago followed up their quick scoring drive with another on the ensuing drive. The Bears went 69 yards in four plays to score their second consecutive touchdown — a 56-yard touchdown reception from Justin Fields to Khalil Herbert — in the first quarter.

Justin Fields played two series in the preseason opener, going 3-of-3 for 129 yards and two touchdowns for a 158.3 passer rating.

After Chicago’s defense forced a three-and-out, Velus Jones Jr. muffed a punt that was recovered by the Titans.

There were three consecutive plays with turnovers – a muffed punt by Chicago’s Velus Jones Jr. followed by an interception by Tennessee’s Malik Willis and finally an interception by Chicago’s P.J. Walker.

Following the P.J. Walker interception, the Titans responded with a six-play, 31-yard scoring drive in the second quarter. Running back Hassan Haskins punched it in for the one-yard touchdown.

Turnover filled first half

There were six turnovers in the first half, specifically in the second quarter — three committed by both the Bears and Titans. Chicago’s Velus Jones Jr. muffed a punt. Then, Tennessee’s Malik Willis threw an interception. On the ensuing play, Chicago’s P.J. Walker tossed an interception. The Titans committed two fumbles, while Bears rookie Tyler Scott also fumbled.
