A live screening of The Coronation is set to be shown at New Lanark’s world heritage site - one of the last places he officially visited before becoming The King.
One of Scotland’s only six UNESCO World Heritage sites, New Lanark is celebrating the historic crowning as part of Lanarkshire’s first food & drink festival being held at the 18th Century mill village on both days this weekend.
Bunting and Royal-themed New Lanark gin and whisky, along with other attractions, such as demonstrations by top chefs, including Rohan Wadke from Masterchef, will be among the festivities at more than 50 stalls.
New Lanark is also running shuttle buses to its film theatre for Saturday’s Coronation of The King, who hailed the purpose-built heritage site as ‘a miracle’ when he visited it last September.
Clare Healy, retail and textile manager at New Lanark, said: “It seemed entirely fitting that our first food and drink festival be held on the Coronation weekend.
“Not only was it a huge honour to welcome His Royal Highness last year, but we had the tremendous privilege of the late Queen visiting the heritage site in June 2000.
"We also launched a special wool from the mill to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and presented a special shawl made from it for the then Duchess of Rothesay.
“We hope that as many people as possible will join us to help commemorate this momentous occasion while enjoying the fantastic lineup of food, drink and entertainment that the festival has in store. From cheese and meats to cakes, bakes and coffee, there will be stalls all around the site with local musicians and buskers entertaining everyone, as well as fun attractions for children.”
Entry to the food festival is free. Shuttle buses are donation only, while car parking is £3 for the whole day with funds re-invested in the preservation of the site. New Lanark will also be offering 20% off visitor attraction tickets over the weekend.
