Updates, highlights

Packers inactives: The Packers already ruled out cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Corey Ballentine, linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and receiver Romeo Doubs. Rookie Jacob Monk is a healthy scratch. The Lions don’t have left tackle Taylor Decker or defensive lineman DJ Reader, plus 17 others on injured reserve currently.

Lions roar early: Detroit took the ball and went 70 yards in 11 plays to score the game’s first points. The Lions converted a pair of third downs, got an explosive run from David Montgomery, an explosive reception from Jameson Williams and a walk-in touchdown run from Montgomery. A holding penalty had the Lions at 1st-and-goal from the 20 and Detroit still scored seven points. Ouch. Rough start.

Big sack for Rashan Gary: The Packers defense delivered a three-and-out thanks to Rashan Gary’s third down sack.

Watson fumble turns into 3: Christian Watson lost a fumble while hurdling over a defender, and the Lions turned the takeaway into three points. A defensive stand after a personal foul penalty on Quay Walker prevented more damage on the scoreboard.

Packers strike, finally: Matt LaFleur leaned on the run game and the Packers drove the field for a much-needed touchdown. It was a chaotic drive, fill of penalties from both sides, but Josh Jacobs plunged in from one yard out — his fourth straight game with a rushing touchdown — to cut the lead to 10-7.

Lions score on 4th-and-goal: On fourth down from the 2-yard line, Dan Campbell rolled the dice, and Ben Johnson delivered the perfect call. Jahmyr Gibbs beat Isaiah McDuffie on an angle route and scored an easy touchdown to put the Lions back up by 10. It’s 17-7.

Packers strike fast to start third: Christian Watson caught a 59-yard bomb from Jordan Love, and Tucker Kraft converted 3rd-and-10 with a 12-yard touchdown catch to get the Packers right back into it. Impressive start to the second half.

Interception, quick touchdown give Packers the lead: Keisean Nixon intercepted Jared Goff, and Josh Jacobs rumbled into the end zone to give the Packers a 21-17 lead. An amazing sequence. Nixon undercut a short throw and returned the pick to the 16-yard line. Three plays later, the Packers hurried to the line and Jacobs broke a tackle or two on a 6-yard touchdown. Just like that, the Packers erased a 17-7 deficit and now lead by four.

Lions score again on fourth down: For the second time tonight and the third time in the series this season, the Lions scored a fourth down touchdown from inside the 5-yard line. On 4th-and-goal from the 3-yard line, Jared Goff hit Tim Patrick for the score. Eric Wilson was scrambling to get lined up pre-snap and the Lions threw it right past him for the touchdown. Detroit has the lead back, 24-21.

Fourth down stop, TD No. 3 for Jacobs: The Packers defense delivered a fourth-down stop at the 31-yard line, and Josh Jacobs rumbled in for his third touchdown. Quay Walker delivered the stop. Tucker Kraft delivered the big play to set up the touchdown. The Packers now lead 28-24. What a game.

Back and forth: The Lions re-take the lead on a 10-play, 70-yard scoring drive. Tim Patrick’s touchdown catch against the lousy coverage of Eric Stokes gave the Lions a 31-28 lead with eight and a half minutes to go.

Tie game: A touchdown pass was negated by penalty, but the Packers still got the game tied with a 32-yard field goal from Brandon McManus. The Lions will get the ball back with 3:38 to go in the fourth quarter. Game on the line. Can Jeff Hafley’s defense get a huge stop?

Bates walks it off: The Packers defense could not stop the Lions, and Jake Bates knocked home a 35-yard field goal to win the game as time expired.
