The armed wing of Palestinian militant group Hamas said on Monday they told Qatari mediators that the group is ready to release up to 70 women and children held in Gaza in return for a five-day truce. The news came after Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said Hamas had "lost control" of the Gaza Strip and that "terrorists are fleeing southward" in the territory it has ruled for 16 years. Joe Biden said Gaza's main hospital "must be protected" and called for "less intrusive action" by Israeli forces.

Israel has accused Hamas of having a command and control centre under the hospital - which the facility and Hamas deny.

Hamas said it is ready to free up to 70 women and children held hostage in Gaza exchange for a 5 day ceasefire.

The director of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNWRA has warned that the group's aid operations in Gaza will be shut down in the next 48 hours if fuel supplies are not allowed in.

Key developments from Sunday, November 12:

WHO restored communication with Al-Shifa hospital: After losing communication with its contacts in Gaza City's largest hospital on Saturday, the WHO on Sunday night said it restored communication. "Regrettably, the hospital is not functioning as a hospital anymore," said the head of WHO.

More than 100,000 people marched against anti-Semitism in Paris: French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, the heads of France's upper and lower houses of parliament and several leading politicians joined demonstrators at a march against anti-Semitism in Paris Sunday.

About casualty figures from Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry:

Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the largest in the enclave, receives data from every hospital in the strip. Hospital administrators say they keep records of every wounded person occupying a bed and every body arriving at a morgue. The ministry collects data from other sources also, including the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The health ministry does not report how Palestinians were killed, whether from Israeli airstrikes and artillery barrages or errant Palestinian rocket fire. It describes all casualties as victims of “Israeli aggression”. The ministry also does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.

Throughout four wars and numerous skirmishes between Israel and Hamas, UN agencies have cited the Hamas-run health ministry’s death tolls in regular reports. The International Committee of the Red Cross and Palestinian Red Crescent also use the numbers.

In the aftermath of war, the UN humanitarian office has published final death tolls based on its own research into medical records. The UN's counts have largely been consistent with the Gaza health ministry’s, with small discrepancies.
