LIV Golf makes major workforce cuts amid bankruptcy fears

  • LIV Golf has issued redundancy notices to the majority of its workforce across the United States and the United Kingdom, with employment ending in the first week of September following the conclusion of the 2026 season.
  • The severe job cuts come four months after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced it was ending its financial backing, having invested over $5bn into the breakaway golf tour over a five-year period.
  • The circuit faces critical financial difficulties, including the threat of bankruptcy, unpaid vendor bills, a cancelled season-ending team championship in Michigan, and a drastically reduced prize purse in Indianapolis.
  • LIV Golf Chief Executive Scott O'Neil is working on a tight timeline to secure a replacement backer, with BC Partners' Ted Goldthorpe reportedly agreeing to a term sheet to fund a redesigned LIV 2.0.
  • The proposed LIV 2.0 concept targets profitability within three years through an abbreviated 10-event 2027 season, though the venture requires an injection of up to $350m and majority approval from the player roster.
