A ghost hunter investigating one of the UK’s most haunted buildings claims to have caught the voice of a troublesome poltergeist on camera.
Matt Barlow and his team from Ghostmag was on an investigation in the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham earlier this month.
When members of the group experience poltergeist activity they head down into the caves in an attempt to make contact.
Shortly after their arrival, Matt said they were pelted with stones.
When they checked their recorders later on, they were shocked to hear the voice of a man who had not been on the trip.
When a woman asked if it was enjoying frightening them, the eerie voice was heard saying: “No.”
Matt said: “It is probably the best evidence I have ever captured on a ghost hunt.
“I was on a recent investigation in the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham and we were in the caves below the building that was used as a dungeon.
“Some of the group had already been down in the caves and had encountered some poltergeist activity so we all decided to relocate down there to try and make contact.
“It wasn't long before a few stones were thrown. One actually hit me on the back, it was thrown by force and came from an area of the caves were none of the group was standing.
“I was genuinely quite sceptical before this incident but can not think of an explanation. It was actually quite frightening as some of the things thrown sounded pretty heavy.
“I understand this is quite a common phenomena in the caves so it was really cool to experience it.
“We were recording audio throughout and you can hear a number of items being thrown. “The most interesting piece of the audio is a ghostly voice a couple of the group actually heard at the time.
“It was a breathy sound and certainly sounds as though the spirit is whispering 'No' into the audio recorder.”
Dating back to 1375, ghost hunters from across the globe have visited the Galleries of Justice over the years.
After trials in the courtrooms above, inmates were taken below for punishment - including men, women, and children - for crimes as minor as theft.
Hangings were held on the steps to the courthouse for hundreds of years until 1864.
It was used as a police station for 80 years before it closed in 1986.
The caves are said to be the most haunted of the building, although cleaners refuse to sweep its main entrance hall where at least three ghosts have been seen.
