While we did get a look at a bunch of players during the Tennessee Titans’ preseason Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears, the vast majority of the starters on both sides of the ball did not play.
Tennessee’s starting offensive line did see a series, but that was the only five starters on offense to see time. On defense, only the starting inside linebacker candidates like Jack Gibbens, Monty Rice and Chance Campbell suited up.
The part about the defense is particularly a relief, as the Bears’ starters ripped off two big plays for touchdowns in their two series against the Titans’ defense (one should have been flagged and called back, though).
Along with the starters, there were some players who are vying for backup jobs and roster spots in general who didn’t suit up.
Here’s the full list of players who didn’t suit up in preseason Week 1, based on a list provided by the team. Players with an asterisk denote a projected starter, and players with a plus sign sat out the last practice on Thursday, which leads us to believe their absence was injury-related.
1
QB Ryan Tannehill*
2
RB Derrick Henry*
3
WR DeAndre Hopkins*
4
WR Treylon Burks*
5
TE Chig Okonkwo*
6
TE Trevon Wesco
7
TE Alize Mack+
8
OL John Ojukwu+(?)
Ojukwu was not on the list provided by the team, but he was also not listed among those who received snaps on Saturday. The 2023 UDFA had missed multiple practices in a row leading up to the game, so it’s very possible he didn’t suit up and was accidentally left off the list.
