Shoppers are being reminded of widespread closures for many supermarkets across Ireland on New Year’s Day.
A number of shops have announced they will shut on January 1 to give staff a well-deserved break after a busy Christmas period.
Anyone looking to restock supplies after the New Year’s celebrations may be met with disappointment.

Customers are being reminded to check their local store’s operating hours before travelling, as many have altered their opening and closing times, or shut completely.
Here’s our guide to the New Year’s Day supermarket opening hours.
Dunnes
Dunnes Stores opening hours will vary depending on the size and location of the store. Some will close completely on January 1, while others will open for limited hours.
For example, Dunnes Stores in the Ilac Centre is closed today, while Dunnes on South Great George's Street will open from 11am until 7pm.

Tesco
Similar to Dunnes, Tesco opening hours will vary from store to store across the country, but customers can expect some change to normal opening and closing times.
Most stores are open from 10am until 6pm today, but others such as Tesco Express outlets are due to be closed all day.

Aldi
Aldi stores nationwide will be closed on New Year's Day. They will reopen on January 2 from 9am until 9pm.
Lidl
Lidl stores nationwide will be closed on New Year's Day. They will reopen on January 2 from 9am until 9pm, and their usual hours of 8am until 10pm will resume from January 3.
SuperValu
Like Dunnes and Tesco, Supervalu branches are each run individually and will operate with varying opening hours on New Year's Day. Some will open from 10am until 8pm, but customers are advised to check their local supermarket using their store locator here before travelling.
Marks and Spencer
Marks and Spencer stores are set to stay closed on New Year’s Day. They will reopen at 8am on Monday and trade until 7pm.
However, M&S operating hours can vary depending on the location, so check your local store here before setting off.
