Lisandro Martinez echoes Erik ten Hag wish for long Manchester United career together

Lisandro Martinez admits he felt at home from his first day at Manchester United and has echoed Erik ten Hag's wish for the pair to have a long and successful career together.

Martinez followed the United boss from Ajax last summer, continuing the three seasons the pair spent together in Amsterdam. The Argentinian has instantly become one of the first names on the Dutchman's team sheet, forming a brilliant central triangle with experienced pair Raphael Varane and Casemiro.

The 25-year-old has instantly become a fan-favourite among the Old Trafford faithful for the very attitude that earned his 'Butcher' nickname. And speaking last week, Ten Hag professed his admiration for the centre-back's mentality, adding that he hopes the pair 'can co-operate for a long time together.'

"I feel at home since the first day here, when I [first] put my foot in Carrington I remember it was an amazing feeling," Martinez told United's in-house media when asked about his manager's statement. "So I'm happy to be with him, to work with him. I know his mentality, he knows my mentality as well.

"So, in a quick time we get the first trophy so we have to work for everything, we have to believe. This club demands to win every game, every title, so we are happy to take this responsibility."

Martinez and his manager travelled to Sevilla earlier this week for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie against Real Betis. A 4-1 home win last week sends them to Spain with a three-goal advantage, but the defender insists his side will show no complacency ahead of a massive few days before the international break.

"Tomorrow, [in] the game we start 0-0," he added. "We have to be ready. We need full focus tomorrow because it's going to be a hard game for us. So if you are not focused you can lose this game. For sure the first leg was a great result for us, but it doesn't say anything. In football everything can happen, so we have to be ready.

"For sure it's very important, but we have to finish well and after [I go away with the] national team also we have many important games. That's why we have to think game by game. We have to be ready for every game."
