Lisandro Martinez has detailed how Erik ten Hag was a significant factor in deciding to join Manchester United.
The defender lifted the Dutch title under Ten Hag last season after being brought to Ajax from native Argentina in 2019. He was named as the club’s player of the year last season after keeping 22 clean sheets.
Martinez seemed to have a close relationship with Ten Hag and the player outlined that him now managing at Old Trafford played a big role in his transfer decision. Speaking to club media, he said: “I was with him for three years at Ajax and I know his style of playing.

“With him, I improved a lot, to be honest. He’s here in Manchester now, so again the opportunity was there and for sure he’s very important in my [career].”
When asked to describe Ten Hag ’s methods, he answered: “Very intense, for sure. Good football. Winning mentality, you know? That’s the most important [thing].
“Every player needs to have things clear. I think he’s very clear also. So I think, with him, every day you can learn and then, in the game, you can understand also fully – tactics and everything.”
Martinez added that Ten Hag helped him to “understand fully the situations” and “the decisions inside the pitch” at Ajax, adding: “He’s there in every detail.” The 24-year-old enjoyed his first United outing in a 4-1 behind closed doors friendly win over Wrexham on Wednesday afternoon.
