Thai-born singer Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban has thanked her home country fans with a special message in Thai for their support that propelled her to be named the best K-pop artist by MTV.
Lisa posted a Thai message followed by an English text with a slightly different meaning on her @BLACKPINK_LISA Twitter account posted on Wednesday night.
“Thank you for all your support for me. I’m touched. I believe this award has sentimental value for me and Blinks,” the Thai message says, using the name that fans of the K-pop group Blackpink have given themselves.
She thanked MTV and everyone in her English tweet.
Lisa became the first solo performer to receive the best K-pop artist award from MTV on Sunday after her superhit solo album Lalisa, named after her first name. All the previous winners have been groups such as BTS.
One of the songs on the album, Lisa’s first outside of Blackpink, wowed Thai fans as she wore Thai traditional headgear in the music video.
Blackpink also grabbed another award at the MTV event for best metaverse performance.
Several Thai fans replied to Lisa with congratulatory messages, mostly in Thai, after she posted her Thai message.
“Please keep inspiring children all over the world,” said a fan writing under the name @iM_Narumon.
Nichkhun “Buck” Horvejkul, a Thai artist with the K-pop boy band 2PM also sent her a message. “So proud of you!” he replied to her post on his @Khnunie0624 account.
The Thai government on Tuesday also commended Lisa for being a role model for other young Thais to be proud of the country, as she also said thank you in Thai when she was on stage to receive her award at the event held in Newark, New Jersey on Sunday.
Lisa, 25, now makes Seoul her home. She left Buri Ram after being the only candidate to win an audition organised by YG Entertainment, a famous Korean music business company, in Thailand in 2010.
