Brisbane will sweat on a hamstring injury to skipper Dayne Zorko as coach Chris Fagan says the second-placed Lions still have plenty of improvement left in them
The Lions shook off their loss to Fremantle by beating St Kilda by 21 points at the Gabba on Saturday night and now get to enjoy the bye ahead of a top-of-the-ladder clash with Melbourne on June 23.
The win was soured by Zorko clutching at his hamstring and being substituted out of the game in the third quarter while Darcy Gardiner didn't finish the game, needing treatment on his back and ribs.
"I know only that Zorks has got a sore hamstring and obviously we'll find out a little bit more about that," Fagan said.
"I think Darcy got a knock on those ribs again from last week. So I'm hopeful that's not too bad."
When asked how the Lions looked placed for a premiership run, Fagan played down his expectations.
"That's a big question. The tilt at the flag? We play Melbourne next game, I'm just worried about trying to beat Melbourne, mate," he said.
"That's all we're trying to do. Trying to obviously win as many games as we can and qualify, and we haven't done that. Ten wins doesn't get it done.
"We've got some big challenges ahead, we'll probably know a little bit more after those.
"But I think there's definitely improvement in us, we're not playing the best football that we can play at the moment.
"But it's a tough competition, there's not too many sides that you can come up against and think you're just going to jog out there and have a victory.
"You have to earn every win in the AFL this year and it's a great competition."
The Lions were bolstered by Joe Daniher's return from a shoulder injury and while he sprayed two early set shots, the key forward kicked three important goals.
"Three goals, pretty good. That would have exceeded my expectations," he said.
"I was getting a bit worried when he was spraying them everywhere early.
"But he kicked some important goals for us and he'll make us a better team and he'll make Eric (Hipwood) and D-Mac (Daniel McStay) more dangerous forwards as well, the fact that he's up there."
